Why Mandurah is the Place to Be

After a horrendously wet and stormy Winter that seemed to drag on forever, we are (Finally) entering the livable temperatures, blossoming flowers and beautiful sunlight that we enjoy every Spring in Western Australia. Currently, its arguably the best time of the year to get out of town; Not too hot, not to cold - Perfect weather for a road trip (The colorful wildflowers viewable from our car windows as we venture down the highway are always an appreciated bonus too!). Coincide this with the School Holidays and you’ve got a rare trifecta of opportunity to hit the road and find somewhere to relax.

Mandurah lies just 70km South of Perth. Awarded the title ‘Western Australia’s Top Tourism Town’ in 2017, we sit just one hour’s drive down the Kwinana Freeway, accessible by taking the unmissable Mandjoogoordap Drive exit. Last year, Mandurah enjoyed a whopping 2.65 million day trips (Jumping from 2.32 million the year before, despite the decline of WA tourism). The rising popularity of this regional town can be attributed to many factors; The continual development of our infrastructure (Fishing Jetty’s, The Foreshore, New bridge, Mandurah Forum, an increasing amount of beautiful waterfront dining options), Events throughout the year, and the convenient ‘pit stop’ location that we occupy on WA’s coast, that drivers may choose to spend some time before venturing further South.

Those who venture into the Peel region should prioritize finding a central location for their accommodation; With public transport and walking proving very viable options for those who find a central base (And perhaps for those who want to enjoy some of our locally produced beer and wine).

Dolphin quay is the heart of Mandurah and supplies various activities from the Performing Arts Centre, Reading Cinemas, Bars, Waterfront dining (including deserts at Simmos or San Churos, for those with a sweet tooth), King Carnival, and Mandurah Cruises Dolphin Tours; There is something for everyone, during day or night. We recommend that those staying nearby at the Atrium Hotel, take an evening walk to the Quay and enjoy the breeze that comes through late in the day, and the lively activity in the area that accompanies it.

Situated along the Quay, is the much-acclaimed Mandurah Foreshore, providing access to numerous events throughout the year, from drum circles, to the NYE fireworks, to the Sunday Markets, there is always something happening at the foreshore. Have a beer while enjoying the water views and local events, or for the more health & fitness inclined, have a coffee after your morning jog along the water. There is a children’s playground, public toilet & BBQ Facilities, and ample picnic spots to sit down and enjoy the sun.

Mandurah’s most underrated coffee spot! Stroll across the pedestrian footbridge and have some fish and chips in the sun while keeping an eye out for the perfect Instagram worthy dolphin photo – Many residents experience dolphins swimming within mere meters of their seated dining. Bars offering locally brewed ice cold beer, tapas and cocktails are rarely overcrowded or noisy as one may experience in a larger city, making Mandurah dining experiences something worth taking part in when you’ve had enough of the hustle and bustle of city dining. The prestigious Atrium Hotel Mandurah is located a mere 500 meters from The Marina, Dolphin Quay, and Mandurah Foreshore, making it an ideal strolling distance when driving or taking a taxi is undesired.

When the sun is scorching outside, dipping into some cold water starts to sound mighty appealing. Town Beach is located only 200m from the Atrium’s doorstep, and can prove a viable alternative to our heated indoor swimming pool, spa, and saunas for those who want to enjoy some salt, sand and sun. Town Beach is popular with Stand Up Paddleboarders due to the pleasant waters and appropriately sized waves.

Believe it or not, Dolphins also frequent our beach! So don’t be alarmed if you catch a fin in the water - It may be just be a curious dolphin.

Mandurah’s Canals are the ultimate sunset walk destination. Grab an ice cream in the warmer weather and enjoy the breeze that flows through the alleys with the kids. Ensure that you book your Christmas light cruises early as they prove very popular with tourists.

If canal walks aren’t your thing, pack your fishing gear and take a short stroll further towards the water, where you’ll find a popular fishing spot on the jetty.
